About the home & restoration:
This Sydney home, is an original Art Deco family home that has been renovated and brought back to life by its owners under the consultation of Tweaq’s design team. The owners were preparing the home for sale but wanted to hand over a Sydney treasure rather than a potential development site.
Each step was carefully considered and the home was simultaneously time honoured and enhanced. Treasures such as original decorative parquetry flooring were discovered under the 30-year-old carpet that, although a tragedy, led to keeping the floors in stunning condition. With a new and lighter colour palette and styling to embrace its era, this home is reliving its glory days.
Built in the early 1940s, this home has a rich and interesting history. The living room was constructed with a vaulted arch ceiling which was acoustically designed for the original owner, who graced his guests with organ recitals in the opulent sitting room.
The beautiful marble cladding of the 3 fireplaces was imported from Italy (Carrara marble) and was cut to reflect the geometric shapes of the rooms. With fireplaces being a key focal point in all common rooms, Kassandra brought in geometric art that extended the eye up even further to its decorative ceilings and added deep navy and cobalt-rich blues to compliment the warmth of the stunning parquetry flooring, which were a different pattern from the entry to the sitting flowing through to the dining and then the sunroom.
This home was considered extremely modern and opulent for its day, boasting a maid’s bell that would call the ‘help’ to any room required at the flick of a switch. This would light up and ring through to the kitchen, where the staff would then tend to the occupant’s needs.
Keeping these historic pieces throughout the home and incorporating modern art Deco pieces is what makes this restoration so special.
Kassandra and the team at Tweaq are so honoured to have been a part of this project. A big thank you to our visionary clients, as well as Heathy Dockary & the team at DiJones Real Estate, our trades & styling team.
